- ★ ★ ★ ★ ★Andrew Barton (Banjo) Paterson was born on the property “Narrambla” in on 17 February 1864. This property of 770 hectares extended from near the present day Ophir Road, westward past the present day Botanic Gardens. Almost 150 years later, a cottage from “Narrambla”, described as similar to where he was born, was set to be demolished. The Rotary Club of Orange coordinated a project with other community organisations and interested individuals, to rescue the cottage and move it to its current site near the Orange Botanic Gardens. The Emmaville Cottage is four room prefabricated cottage typical of early Australian vernacular architecture, when American redwood panels were shipped from the United States and assembled to build large numbers of cottages in Australia. It is open on special occasions and by appointment. The guides have a wealth of knowledge and are committed to telling Banjos story and the history of the cottage.By Rotary Orange, June 14, 2017
